The Chelyabinsk Bolide

Did you know that in February 2013, an asteroid approximately 20 meters in diameter entered the Earth’s atmosphere over the Russian city of Chelyabinsk?

A Modern Reminder

The shockwave from its mid-air explosion, equivalent to about 30 times the Hiroshima bomb, caused over 1,500 injuries (mainly from broken glass) and damage to thousands of buildings. This event underscored the real threat posed by even relatively small objects.
